She (MS) was pioneer of sort, as she may be considered as few stars who worked in films (Tamil Films), being a woman, unlike North India.
Who is she if one asks? then what i am supposed to answer? MS she is.
She is a Bharat Ratna. First musician or so to say a Singer that too a woman!! who was cofered with highest civilian award: BharatRatna. She belonged to a great lineage & tradition of Musicians, all women, and all were great masters in thier field. Though in childhood she did not get much support but as she grew up and learnt from masters she became best disciple.
When Doordarshan came to our house since that day we started loving her. Her voice was god gifted, Ofcourse she worked very hard to cultivate her talent. She presented her song on an international forum UN assembly that no one did ever before her. No one would have thought to do so.
Due to her talent only all Suprabhatam Vishnu Sahastranam etc became a household name in India. Due to her singing BhajGovindam we and whole world came to know that this bhajan was written by Adi Sankaracharya ji. What else can we say in praise of her.
When i saw the program on Doordarshan about the Festival Of India in London where MS Subbulakshmi ji sang. The moment when Prince of Wales and PM Margaret Thatcher greeted her, she reciprocated with folded hands, her nose ring was dazling that overshadowed the presence of other diginitaries. as i saw on black and white screen of my TV. Such was my admiration towards her. she sang in many languages.
I saw Meera, the Hindi film, broadcast by Doordarshan many years back. She worked in film and her daughter Radha ji acted as child Meera. But most important thing was that Nightingale of India, Kokila, Our Sarojini Naidu ji introduced MS as the Nightingale of India. It was a great moment.
